So as promised I wanted to talk about how it has been without having the hubby home to help with both the girls. He has been back to work now for a little more than 2 weeks. To be honest the first day he went back to work was the absolute worst!! Lucy was so use to having him home for a whole month and having his complete undivided attention, and when she realized that wasn't there it was a whole day of meltdowns {shes also cutting her incisor tooth too} I felt completely overwhelmed and thinking to myself.. oh boy what did we get ourselves into.
Since that day each day has gotten easier and easier. Unfortunately the first day Alex went back to work he didn't come home for 72 hours.. which forced me to make my first outing with both the girls to go grocery shopping :/ The outing itself wasn't stressful it was getting both the girls and all the groceries up the stairs.. yikes.. workout done!
looking forward to not having to do this soon...
Once we had groceries and everything we needed life got a little easier. The hardest part about being by myself for 24 hours at a time is bath, book and bedtime for Lucy. I call it my circus hour, its literally me running back and forth between each girl and the song {di di dittledo da di di dittledo - the circus song} plays in my head. It really is the only time during the whole day that gets a little stressful.
Lucy has been a super great helper! She NEEDS something to do at all times during the day, so whatever I am doing I just have her do the same thing to her best ability. We are packing our life away and after I label the box Lucy always gets the sharpie {cap securely back on} and she goes to town writing on the boxes.
There are totally moments where both girls are screaming and crying at the top of their lungs and it can make me a little crazy, but then in a snap of fingers it becomes the sweetest of moments and the house is silent. How I deal with moments like that, I take a few deep breaths and try to console Lucy first, her mood will flip quicker than Ellie's Usually I just bring out a toy that she hasn't played with yet that day, or I let her stack sprinkles or bowls in the kitchen.
And I just let her do her thing when I am nursing E. Things like this happen.. a LOT!!

Packing packing packing packing... thats all we do right now, and we have been to this store more in the past month than we have like ever! Lucy doesn't mind at all!!
Some days I totally miss my hubby when he's gone! And it's like he knows, because I will get a sweet selfie from him and it totally makes my day!!!! just savin lives and being a total hunk!!

You are doing a great job, mama!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you lovely, I am finding my groove, hoping to continue to find strength! xoxo
DeleteYou can do it. I swear the circus hour gets easier. It really does. Now we have it DOWN but my gosh the first 2 mos was like WHAT DID WE DO?!!! Lol! You're doing awesome! You're the perfect mom for your girls remember that God gives us what we need!
ReplyDeleteThanks girl, I feel great when Alex is home, it's just when he's gone, things can get a little crazy FAST! I hope bath, book and bedtime gets easier by myself, I'm sure as ellie gets more and more satisfied with eating it will be better, usually I have to feed her at the same time I'm putting Lu down, trying to change her schedule around so she's content during that time or asleep ;) thank you for the encouragement!
DeleteToddlers are a very busy age! :) come check out my blog www.choosingmontessori.blogspot.ca Ever think about setting up a montessori area for your child? Keeps them busy while learning :)
ReplyDeleteVery busy age!! Thanks girl I'll check it out! I would love to put her I to a Montessori but she's too young!
DeleteYou are doing great mama!! I have been curious if the nursing basket for Lucy has helped of not? Or if meltdowns came once the basket of toys had to be out away? Trying to decide to do one or not, we have soooo much already!! Xo!!
ReplyDeleteIt totally works, but I think I need to update the toys, you know put new things in there every month so that way it's always new and exciting!
DeleteAnd the meltdown didn't really happen once I was done nursing I try to put Ellie down and focus on Lucy so that usually helps and we put it away!
DeleteIt is HARD when Daddy is gone when you have two littles! David was working out of town during the weeks when Sophie was 2-4 weeks old, and then he was gone for a class for a month when she was 4 months old and Lexi was 2, and even just that small amount was SO hard for me! I did my best to get them on the same nap schedule, so I could have down time, but that didn't always work. Call in someone to help! Even if someone just comes to rock baby while Lucy naps, you can take time to take a walk outside by yourself, go to a nearby shop, or just lay down!
