As most of you already know our sweet Ellenah gave us quite the scare this weekend. I wanted to share a little more on what happened exactly and to talk about how she's doing so much better ;)
We had lots of plans for our weekend some of them included a date night for Alex and I (long overdue) as well as a day at the county fair, and helping Alex's department with fill the boot. We have not missed a fill the boot in 5 years. It was easy to let go of those plans to take care of our sweet babe but it still was a little hard to pass up. Instead of all those plans we stayed home. We played at our house and only went out once to grab milk and look at flowers for our yard ;)
So let me back track and explain the progression of Ellie. On Tuesday she was VERY VERY fussy. I chalked it up as teething because she had a slight runny nose, very irritable and drooling like crazy. On Wednesday she was even fussier and she was getting pretty warm. I gave her some tylenol as her temp was 100. I know your suppose to only give it to them when they are like 102-103 but I give it to my girls at 100. Her temp throughout the day kept rising. By 10 she was at 103, by 2 she was 105 and the tylenol/motrin rotation was not bringing it down, she kept getting higher and higher. It was starting to freak me out. Her skin was burning mine and she was beyond lethargic. She just looked at me and cried. At that moment I knew something wasn't right and we needed to get her in asap. Her pediatrician luckily was working late. We rushed her in. She was very concerned we took a urine sample (which was terrible) and then they sent us over for lab work at the hospital. Oh yeah Alex was at work so I was solo with the girls. Talk about a day to have the hubby gone for 24 hrs. We got stuck in the ER for 3 hours. It was suppose to be a very quick blood draw and then home until we heard back from her DR. They kept wanting to admit her. It was beyond frustrating, and I am trying to get Lucy to stop crawling on the floor etc. While Ellie is crying. Def looked like the mom who is in way over her head (I WAS). Lucy I do have to say did AMAZING she was very obedient and very worried for her sister. It was hard not being able to comfort her as I needed to hold Ellie. My parents made it to the ER after the first couple hours and I was so happy to see them. We finally got the blood draw which was brutal on every level. We left and went home and got the girls in their beds they both fell fast asleep as it was 3 hours past their bedtime. Ellie's temp was 100 and I was so thankful for that. It finally dropped. Her Dr called around 10 and said her urine sample had no bacteria in it but that her white blood cell count was low. She wanted an update first thing in the morning either way and we would go from there. About 2 hours later she woke up crying again. Before I even picked her up I could feel the heat radiating off her. She was up to 105.6 this time. I called Alex immediately and had him come home. I was terrified and needed him home. Thankful he could leave at a moments notice. He got home right when I got her down again. I filled him in on everything then we got some rest. AN hour went by and she's back up again her fever was still 105 even after Tylenol. We offered her water or cold milk and she wouldn't take either. We rocked her to sleep in our arms and laid her back down. 30 minutes goes by up again. The remainder of the early morning went the same. When I started seeing daylight through the curtains I remember being so excited. We made it and we are that much closer to getting her into the DR.
That morning she woke up still with a 105 fever. She couldn't walk or even sit up because she was so weak. It was breaking my heart. We rushed right to her DR without even making an appt. They got her right in and her DR walked in listened to what had happened and saw she was forming Petekei rash. She saw how lethargic she was and that she could barely walk and sent her straight to the Pediatric Unit at the Hospital. Thankfully my mom was just arriving to take Lucy with her for the day. So blessed by her. She took Lucy on all her errands and spoiled her like crazy. I was at ease knowing I could just focus on Ellie. We admitted her and heard the game plan which was to hook her up to some IV's to get some fluid back in her. She was severely dehydrated. Getting the IV in was terrible... I bawled. I hated every second of it as did she. She slept on and off as they had to check vitals every 4 hours. She slept I think 45 minutes that day. And she didn't get any sleep the night before. She was so exhausted I've never seen either or my baby girls look the way she did and I pray I never have to again. That night it took FOREVER to get her to sleep. We were working on maybe an hour or two of sleep in over 24 hours. I finally got her to sleep from 3:30am - 7:30am. I got maybe 2.5 hours of that 4. Alex and Lucy arrived with coffee at 7 and I was so excited to see both of them. 48 hours and maybe 5 hours of sleep later. I was a walking zombie running on adrenalin. That morning Ellie woke up chipper and like her normal self. She wanted food and milk for the first time in 2 days. She was eating everything in her sight. It was making me so happy to see her eat. I knew we were that much closer to going home. We were discharged around 1 from the hospital. Her blood cell count was still low but nothing was showing a bacterial infection which is what they were thinking she had. Bacterial Meningitis. Praise the Lord is was just a NASTY virus.
We are home we are healthy and just trying to get caught up and back to normal. I tried to keep it short and simple so if it doesn't make sense that's why. I didn't think you needed EVERY detail.
This was Wednesday when she was up to 105 :(
Admitted and trying to get her to relax and SLEEP.
Her eyes were breaking my heart.
The next day after getting her IV in.
Trying to keep her as entertained as possible. The nurses kept bringing her stickers as a peace offering ;)
The highlight of her day was when her big sissy came for dinner and cartoons.
The morning we left. You could tell she was feeling better. Everyone could.
The next morning my sweet hunky husband made us girls breakfast. It was so wonderful being all together and healthy. It was a full blown family breakfast and my heart was loving it.
Later I took Lucy on a little girls date to get some milk and look at flowers. I just adore this girl and all the funny things she says and points out. She will be the first to point out a wardrobe malfunction or the fact that I did or didn't do something a certain way. Accountability at it's finest.
We can't thank each and everyone of you enough for your kind words and prayers. We feel so blessed to have every one of you as a part of our lives near and far. Thank you, thank you. I didn't feel alone going through this knowing we had so many of you praying over our sweet girl. The Lord has blessed us. My heart goes out to the families who go through this on the monthly, weekly, daily basis. It really opened my eyes to a lot. If that is you know I am praying for you.
XOXO
