This morning the girls and I ran into town to pick up some local peaches. We eat mostly organic food and it's very important for our fruit, veggies & meats to be organic. Recently I have been finding all sorts of great local spots to get our staples at. We LOVE the farmers market especially for all things local and fresh. Summer is such a great time to stock up on fresh local produce.
It's always an adventure taking the girls to places where I know it will get interesting. Picking peaches and putting them in boxes was a no brainer for me. I knew they would get such a kick out of it. Lucy always loads up her traders shopping cart with all our staples so I knew she would especially love it.
By the third box these girls were ready for some peaches of their own. Lucy just started eating one and then of course Ellie HAD to have one. That turned into one sticky mess but I couldn't stop smiling. They were giggling and sharing a peach and my heart melted.
We walked away with three boxes for $9.00 seriously cannot beat that. I sort of want to go back for more ;) We have a few plans for all these peaches. One of which is canning them. My husband has peaches and cottage cheese every morning. The girls LOVE peaches as do I, so hopefully canning them will preserve them for a while so we can keep fresh peaches year round. The other thing I would LOVE to make is peach margaritas ; ) I pinned a yummy recipe the other day and I cannot wait to try it out. YOU can find the peach margarita recipe on my pinterest board TASTE or you can click here for an easier link.
If you have any pearls of wisdom in the peach canning business please feel free to leave all the tips :)
