As most of you know keeping up with any form of fitness routine can be very hard. I get excited and consistent for a period of time and then I slowly back off and then a week or two will go by and I can't even imagine working out. The longer I go without working out the harder it is to get back into it. The hubby and I have been trying to encourage each other in this area and get outside and get movin. To bad this past week we have been cooped up inside due to unhealthy air quality from the fires that are surrounding us. We have been inside for a week, running errands here and there to get out of the house and burn off some energy.
I wanted to share with you some things we do on a regular basis to keep us movin throughout the week so we don't get stuck in the non exercise phase. I can tell you my attitude is 110% better if I am regularly movin and exercising. Going on a run or walk or even doing a circuit workout at least 3-5 times a week is my goal.
This circuit can be done at any park or even at home while the kids are napping. It's a great workout to get your heart rate pumping while keeping it somewhat low impact.
This will be a circuit of 5 exercises and we will do 4 sets of this circuit.
Mind you my husbands least favorite thing in the world is to snap a few pictures during his workout so they are very poor quality and angles but I think we snagged a few that get the point across.
1. 10 DIPS - Dips workout your triceps (for all you ladies we like that it tones our arms) Make sure your elbow makes a 90 degree angle when you are all the way down. If you have a mirror you can look at. If not you can try to make your best judgement. To make this workout a little harder extend your legs out straight in front of you.
2. 10 BOX JUMPS - Start with your feet flat on the ground under your hips. From there jump straight up and onto a level sturdy surface. Both feet will land on the box together and both feet will land back on the ground together. Swinging your arms helps give you a little umph to your jump. (ps. see the little babe walking around)
3. 10 PUSHUPS - we all know what pushups are. Try to keep your abs flexed and your body as parallel to the floor as you can be. I've got the weakest arms around, so if I start to feel fatigued I just drop down to my knees. No shame in that, I'm getting a better workout for myself while doing it right.
4. 10 pullups - YOU get a picture of my hunk for this one because I could only do one without him spotting me. I know.. so weak, but I am trying and that's all that matters. If you cannot do pullups like me or if you do not have anyone who will spot you, you can do another round of pushups and put your hands together to form a triangle.
5. 20 SKI JUMPS - You can find anything really to jump over for this exercise. Make sure you keep your feet together while you jump over the curb then jump back over to the side you started on.
COOL DOWN - you may be a little tight after this little circuit so make sure you walk or jog around a little bit to release some lactic acid and loosen your muscles. Drink lots of water as well to keep you extra hydrated. I usually drink 80 ounces of water a day. I have a big starbucks reusable cup that I fill up with ice water and my goal is 4 times a day. It's a great way to keep track of how much water you're drinking.
Hope that you can try this little circuit out the next time you're at the park with your littles or even just have some downtime during naps.
